As of May 2023, I have had the pleasure of being a part of the interior design team at Ritter Maher Architects as an interior design student intern. Ritter Maher Architects, located in Baton Rouge, LA, was started by Scott Ritter and Stephen Maher in 2003, with the firm recently celebrating their 20th year anniversary. As an intern interior designer, I have helped the interiors team on projects by selecting interior finishes, drawing construction documents, building custom furniture, creating interior renderings, and assisting in keeping the materials library organized and cleaned. Within the construction documents, I have helped create RMA’s standard interior sheets by drawing floor finish plans, wall finish plans, millwork and interior elevation key plans, interior finish schedules, and furniture plans. I work in Revit for construction drawings and pair Revit with Enscape and Adobe Photoshop to make renderings. I often use in InDesign and Microsoft Powerpoint to create presentations whether its for interior finishes, furniture, and FFE packages.

I’ve had the opportunity to sit in on client meetings and listen to how the designers and architects converse with the client to ensure that the design is suitable for the client’s needs and is functionable. Through this internship experience, I was able to confirm that I would like to pursue a career in commercial interior design and plan to get licensed as an Interior Designer after graduation.
